Presentation

"Energy Games - Energy Takes Shape" HUSKROUA/1001/102 project is implemented within a partnership lead by the Energy Management Agency of Maramures (AMEMM), and is financed under the Joint Operational Cross-border Cooperation Programme Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine 2007-2013.

The project started on the 1st of September 2012 with an implementation period of 24 months.

What is the ENPI programme?

The overall aim of the Programme is to promote activities with the support of the European Union which will lead to a more intense and deeper social and economic cooperation between regions of Ukraine and regions of Member States sharing common border.

The 4 priorities of this programme are:
  • social economical development;
  • improving the quality of the environment;
  • improving the efficiency of cross border management;
  • supporting "people-to-people" cooperation.

"Energy Games - Energy Takes Shape" HUSKROUA/1001/102 project is being financed under Priority 4: Support people to people cooperation - Measure 4.2: Small scale people to people cooperation.

What are our goals?

Stimulating active participation of students and teachers in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by training them on how to save energy in schools and homes and to raise awareness on the importance of conservation of natural resources by promoting the energy from renewable sources.

Specific Objectives:
  • Changing the behaviour of students and teachers regarding the way they consume energy in order to stop the waste of energy both in school and family environment;
  • Training the participants to the project on the simple means which can significantly reduce electricity, heat and water consumption as well and the use of renewable sources like water, sun, wind, wood to produce electricity or heat;
  • Achieving a first step in introducing into school curricula of some hours dedicated to the production and consumption of energy and its contribution to climate change.

The project is addressing students aged 9-12 years (second to forth grade), teachers willing to participate in our project, different collaborators like the County Inspectorate for Schools Maramures, The Engineering Faculty of Baia Mare, but also to all those interested in protecting our environment.

What is the background of our project?

The inspiration for this project came from an Italian partner, involved in a common interregional cooperation project, the Abruzzo region of Italy. This Italian region has been successfully organizing for the past 8 years a contest dedicated to energy.

This contest is called "Energiochi" and is being organized on a large scale in the region with the participation of a large number of schools from Abruzzo.

Nevertheless, Energy Management Agency of Maramures (AMEMM) has been successfully collaborating in the past, in similar educational projects with the current partners of our project.

One of these projects has been recently finished and was dedicated to the strengthening of cooperation among educational institutions within the cross border regions, for more info please follow: http://www.europeanschool.amemm.ro.

Who are the partners our project?

The partnership is lead by the Energy Management Agency of Maramures (AMEMM), an NGO set up in 2009, within an project financed under the programme "Intelligent Energy Europe".

Our agency is a qualified organism working for the community, contributing to the sustainable development of the county by promoting energy efficiency, energy management, usage of renewable energy sources and to the improvement of the way energy is produced an used.

Collaborators:

What are the activities of the project?

  • Training seminars for the teachers of the educational institutes registered for the competition dedicated to climate change and sustainable energy with its two components: energy from renewable sources and energy efficiency.
  • Educational activities in theory and practice for students aged 9-12 years in the registered educational institutes. Following the training of the teachers, several demonstrative lessons will be organized: simple energy saving measures will be introduced and demonstrations will be conducted using the renewable energy kits and equipments purchased by the Energy Management Agency of Maramures (AMEMM).
  • Development of the educational brochures and educational materials dedicated to energy saving and renewable energy sources together with educational materials that will show the role of education as a vector for behavior change. Teachers will be provided with working sheets to be used during classroom exercise.
  • Permanent monitoring of the energy consumption in the educational institutions involved in the project. Students coordinated by their teachers will monitor the energy consumption of their school and become more sensitive to the issue of energy waste.
  • "Energy Games - Energy Takes Shape" a competition among students from each registered school will be organized in which the contestants are required to create a design or a craft that express their idea of energy efficiency, renewable energy sources or mitigation of greenhouse gas production, etc.
  • Awarding the most inspirational creations by a jury coordinated by AMEMM during a festive event.
  • An energy camp for the most active students in the project, a camp to be organized in Romania.
